The
Department
Generalitat
Valenciana is the Government of the Autonomous Region of Valencia. Within
this institution, the Conselleria de Medio Ambient is the regional Ministry
of Environment that has full responsibility of the ruling of public
and private forest and rangeland management of public forest and rangelands
in the Region. The General Directorate of Forest Resources, and specifically
the Forest Fire Prevention Service (FFPS), has the responsibility for
fire prevention planning and management. The General Directorate of
Forest Resources has promoted and funded a R+D programme (1991-2003)
on Land Restoration, that is developed and managed by Fundación CEAM,
with the participation of several Spanish Universities and Research
Institutes. The principal research priorities in this programme are
fire prevention, wildfire impact and land restoration. The Service of
Forest Fire Prevention is launching a Fire Prevention Plan for all Forest
and Rangeland territory in the Region, both public and private. through
the implementation of integral projects of preventive silviculture in
application of the EC Regulation 2158/92. Within this framework, the
FFPS is developing a pilot project for preventive silviculture in the
Ayora area, which includes the Spanish GeoRange test site. This project
is currently in the implementation phase, with revisions after two and
four years, therefore it will be directly benefited from the GeoRange
research, and at the same time it will provide a real execution project
for GeoRange application and testing.
GeoRange In the framework of GeoRange, the Conselleria de Medio Ambient participates as an associated contractor to CEAM. The currently pending pilot project for preventive silviculture undertaken in the area of the GeoRange Ayora test site, which will undergo revisions after two and four years, is of primary importance for the project. It will on the one hand directly benefit from the GeoRange research, while on the other provide at the same time a real execution project for applying and testing project results.Within the project, the Conselleria will be involved as an end-user participating in project meetings and helping to identify the requirements for sustainable range management from the perspective of administrational authorities, thus ensuring the practical relevance of the project results. |
