The Department

The "Corpo Forestale e di Vigilanza Ambientale" (CFVA - Forestry Service and Environmental Control Service of the Sardinian Regional Authority) was founded in the 1986, to substitute in many topics and institutional duties the Italian Forestry Service. This is related to the special level of legal and administrative autonomy of the Region as stated in the Sardinian Statute, approved with an Italian Constitutional Law. The institutional duties of the CFVA are the practical implementation of the Environmental legislation (EU Regulations, Italian and Regional laws and regulations) to the rural environment. One of the main topics is the sustainable management of the land that is object to land use restrictions according to environmental legislation. Other duties derived from the legislation are concerning the protection of the landscape, the surface waters, parks and natural reservoirs, habitats, fires, forest interventions, forest inventories, State and Municipality property, civic uses.In addition to its operational institutional tasks the CFVA is actively participating as contractor, in national and EU funded research projects such as SALTUS (ENV 2C) and DIBOMED.

GeoRange

The Corpo Forestale e di Vigilanza Ambientale participates in GeoRange both as an end-user with the authority to turn management suggestions arising from the project into practice, and as a full contractor, To this end, it will conduct a substantial amount of field data collection, and will also compile the spatial data base in the Sardinia site. Concerning the analysis of satellite data, CFVA will primarily co-operate with LUC which is performing most of the remote sensing work in Sardinia. It will further contribute to the retrospective analysis of range development and the assessment of the impact of past management actions. Accordingly, it will also be involved in the definition of alternative/optimised management strategies.
